Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for appointment to this full-time position as soon as possible.
Reporting to the Assistant Finance Manager, you will assist the Faculty Finance Manager in providing a professional financial
research support service to the Faculty of Humanities and its departments.
Requirements for the job:
• A tertiary level accounting qualification (BCom degree or other equivalent Accounting/Management Accounting/Costing
qualification OR, if qualified by experience, an NQF 4 and at least 7 years’ experience at the advertised level, with the
same/similar key performance areas.
• At least 5 years financial/management accounting experience in a large or medium size organizational environment
• A broad knowledge and understanding of financial and management accounting principles and systems
• Staff management and training experience
• Sound working knowledge of SAP R/3
• Computer proficiency (Excel, Word, Internet, Email) at an intermediate level
• Numeracy and analytical skills
• Good client services, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Proven ability to work accurately and meticulously within a deadline driven environment
• Proven personal accountability and commitment
• Proven ability to work effectively in a team and independently
The following will be advantageous:
• Familiarity with UCT’s Cost Recovery process and UCT’s policies, procedures, and administrative processes.
Responsibilities:
• Line management of 2 x Finance Officers and an Assistant Finance Officer
• Monitoring compliance with UCT and funder requirements and taking corrective action as needed
• Loading and monitoring of approved internal awards and the related correspondence
• Provide assistance and guidance to researchers with budgets and the costing of proposals
• Compile, review and approve financial reports for submission to funders
• Apply the faculty’s cost recovery mandate
• Finance approver for proposals on the Electronic Research Administration System (eRA)
• Oversee fund and cost center maintenance and management
