Solvita & Mycorrhizal Root colonisation (Root Staining) – Capture, process, record and evaluate external samples received for Solvita analysis and Myco Root colonisation and ensure relevant completed form is received.
Mycorrhiza Spore Count/Quality Control (“Wash 7 count”) – ensure samples submitted to the Lab for Mycorrhizal spore count are received, recorded and labelled including concentrated Myco powder as well as final products and test samples and accurately wash and count spores in samples submitted, capture raw data following which decant left over concentrated Myco-powder and liquid into relevant containers and store final product samples as needed.
Trichoderma Plate Count Method/Quality Control – Ensure all samples submitted for plate count method received, recorded and labelled as well as concentrate powder, final products and test samples, accurately process samples and capture raw data, clean equipment and work areas after completion and assist with evaluation and improvement of protocol.
Production Management of Trichoderma and other niche Microbial products – Assist Microbial Team Leader with management of production and stock levels based on set targets as and when required, assist with isolation, maintenance and purification of mother cultures for Production, quality control and intellectual property purposes including drafting, implementation and management of cleaning and production schedules.
Various administrative tasks, including;
Backup of electronic data and documents
Prepare and maintain stocktake documentation
Manage the procurement of laboratory items from approved suppliers when requested.
Communicate and follow up with suppliers regarding items out of spec and manage exchange/return of item ensuring correct item is received and paid for.
Manage and co-ordinate budgets for Myco lab, Fungal Lab and Trichoderma production under supervision
Co-ordinate and effect despatch, receipt and storage of parcels to and from clients, suppliers and collaborating organisations
Maintain and manage servicing schedules of laboratory equipment.
Assist Microbial Team Leader with compilation, revision and management of procedures and protocols to be loaded onto intranet once signed off
Adhere to and maintain hard copy and electronic document filing systems in an orderly and optimal manner
Organise and co-ordinate monthly management meeting to discuss matters of importance
Ensure effective housekeeping and deep cleaning in accordance with laboratory cleaning procedures
On occasion is required to carry out ad hoc tasks for which the incumbent is competent

Qualifications & Experience
Minimum education Grade 12 with post matric qualification of a B.Sc. or Technical Science degree focussed on Bio-technology or related scientific field.
Minimum 2 years work experience in a commercial setting in a similar role.
Possess a sound working knowledge of good laboratory practices.
Sound working knowledge of microbial culturing and upkeep of cultures.
Knowledge of SHEQ Management Systems standards/requirements advantageous but not a prerequisite.
Must be computer literate MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook).
Possess good communication (verbal and written), planning, organising and presentation skills.
Must be able to work under pressure, be deadline driven and self-motivated.
Must be able to operate in a multi-disciplinary environment and possess excellent problem solving skills.
Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license, have own reliable transport and be medically fit to drive.
Possess a sound knowledge of laboratory administration, laboratory procurement and laboratory servicing needs.
